DIY felt baby slippers

A couple of weeks ago I was leaving the parking garage after work and started talking to the parking attendant. Somehow my blog came up, and she said, “I have the cutest, easiest template for making felt baby slippers!” She brought her template and instructions the next week, and last night I made these adorable slippers!

The pattern she brought calls for a buttonhole stitch, but I think this simple diagonal stitch looks cute, too. I found the original instructions here, but if all you want is the pattern for the sole and top part of the slippers, that’s available here. The original calls for elastic in the middle to help the slippers stay on, but I chose to use a small length of the pearl cotton. It took about 45 minutes to make this pair, but now that I’ve done it once I think it will be much quicker in the future.

What you’ll need:
1 sheet of felt
pearl cotton thread
needle
scissors
felt baby shoe template from the purl bee
(optional) decorative buttons

I think I’ll probably make a whole bunch of these to have on hand for baby showers — they’d be super cute on top of a gift!
