DIY tulle baby headband

In the past year, the number of baby girls I know has increased by approximately 8,000%. Now that’s just an estimate, but it’s a delightful coincidence that I also have time for craftiness. This week’s activity was making some headbands for all the beautiful baby girls!

I followed instructions from this blog post, and it’s pretty darn easy to do — no sewing machine required! Just tulle, needle and thread, a hot glue gun and some felt.

I forgot to take starting photo, but tulle is hard to see anyway. For each “petal,” start with a 3-5 inch square of tulle. Fold in half, then quarter, then an eighth so it’s a triangle shape. Use scissors to round the top so it looks something like this:

Thread the bottom of the petal, and make a whole bunch more. It looks kind of confusing when it’s just sitting there in a picture:

Once you’ve made a bunch of petals and threaded them, pull them all together and tie the thread on the bottom so you have a lovely poof of tulle petals:

Use a hot glue gun to attach one piece of felt to the bottom of the poof:

Put more hot glue onto this felt, put in whatever fabric you’re using for the band, and a second piece of fabric so there aren’t any weird ends touching the baby’s head.

And that’s it! It takes a little while to make the first one, but you’ll fall into a rhythm in no time and make these really quickly 🙂
